Earlier this year the Renaissance man and I went on a skiing holiday to the adorable little Austrian village of Rauris. Just round the corner from our hotel we found this beautiful old church – the ceiling painting were pretty spectacular! Apparently it dates back to 1411 or so, when Rauris was a prosperous gold mining town.
- The altar – fabulous paintings!
- View from the main square
- Interestingly, this elegant box faces away from the altar and over the congregation – the perfect spot for people-watching!
- One of the ceiling paintings
- The font itself appears much older than the highly decorative lid.
- Fabulous ironwork!
- I don’t think I’ve ever photographed a door hasp before
- This booth has the most spectacular trompe l’oeil wood marquetry that I’ve ever seen!
- The paintwork in the porch has weathered over the years, but still impressive!
- A blizzard on our last night
